VMworld on the Road is a great way to get information about the various products and technologies that are showcased at VMworld. For those that were unable to make it to one of the VMworld events due to a conflict, or did not have the budget for the event, this is a good channel to get access to some of the experience. I attended this event at Santa Clara on 10/22, and came away with a good understanding of VMware’s new product announcements.
Some of the products and technologies showcased included the Software Defined Data Center (SDDC), the new vSphere 5.5 and vCloud 5.5, VMware NSX for network virtualization, VSAN for storage, and the Desktone acquisition for virtual desktops. Each of these products and technologies were detailed, providing an understanding of VMware’s roadmap.
Granted, this was a single day event, and was no match for VMworld at all. Some of the things I missed were the Hands-on-Labs, the various technology deep dive sessions, and the many meetings that happen on the sidelines of a major event. Also, networking opportunities were highly limited at this event, but it was a good technical overview session to attend.
