From the editors virtual desk
Hi everyone, I hope you have had as good a week as I have. I am currently on some annual leave in such a beautiful part of Australia, very close to Byron Bay. The weather has been awesome and I am having a fantastic time. I have been keeping up with many of the news items, not that I am just working but also relaxing. This week’s newsletter is jam packed with some excellent information for you so please read it as comprehensively as possible.
I am currently getting to grips with vCAC and ITBM which are technologies I am very interested in and with the growth of Hybrid Cloud believe they will become even more crucial to a successful datacenter that is managed across multiple boundaries in the future.
I hope you enjoy the newsletter and look forward to speaking to you again next week.
Virtually Yours

- VMware End User Computing: Persistence Pays Off (http://blogs.vmware.com/euc/?p=5272)Guest blog by Lee Caswell, VP of Virtualization Products, Fusion-io Back when VDI started, the persistent desktop was king. The first virtual desktop wasn’t that virtual at all since persistent hardware was dedicated to individual users. But it was fast and it was secure. The downside of persistent desktops was cost. Dedicated hardware gave way to shared storage and more efficient provisioning techniques, but the cost of a persistent desktop remained far above the cost of a physical desktop. …
- VMware Support Insider: Investing in Services – Announcing Acquisition of Third Sky, Inc (http://blogs.vmware.com/kb/?p=6081)Scott Bajtos, SVP, Global Services, VMware VMware has always had a strong appetite for healthy disruption. - VMware Virtualization Management Blog: Selecting a Cloud Automation Solution: Part 1: The Build vs Buy Decision (http://blogs.vmware.com/management/?p=2989)You have come to the realization that you need to accelerate IT service delivery in order to allow the business to be more agile, nimble and productive. The first decision many companies struggle with is should they build their cloud automation software themselves, or buy off the shelf software that can help accelerate their cloud deployment. The dilemma companies face is the trade-off between building something that exactly meets their needs or using software that requires changes to existing tools and…
- VMware Education & Certification Blog: IT ‘Upskilling’ Key to Career Advancement – And Not Just for IT Pros (http://blogs.vmware.com/education/?p=3882)By David Day I recently read an interesting article in TalentCulture that looked at the persistent IT skills gap from a new angle: that of recruiters trying to help fill specific jobs (especially in the Midwest United States, which has the hardest time, apparently). I wrote last month about how IT roles are covering a wider range of skills than ever before. According to this post, that means that recruiters also have to keep up on a wider range of skills in order to converse with and evaluate today’s…
