VMware vSphere Blog: What’s New in vSphere 5.5 Platform–Quick Reference (https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/?p=10055)With all the new announcements at VMworld last week you will be excused for not knowing the technical advantages that have been added to the vSphere 5.5 release and specifically in the platform, with this in mind we wanted to create a quick technical overview of what’s new so you are armed with the information you need as a technical person. This “Quick Reference” was created as a single place to look and find out the new features which interest you and give you some base information to quickly…

VMware vSphere Blog: A Summary of What’s New in vSphere 5.5 (http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/?p=10040)On August 26th at VMworld 2013 VMware announced vSphere 5.5 , the latest release of  VMware’s industry-leading virtualization platform.  This latest release includes a lot of improvements and many new features and capabilities.  In an effort to try and get my head around all this exciting new “stuff” I decided to go through the what’s new paper and compile a brief summary (well, relatively brief anyway). Here’s the list I came up with.  I’m sure I missed some things, but this list should…

VMware vSphere Blog: World’s First TPC-VMS Benchmark Result (https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/?p=9972)VMware, along with our partner HP , are excited to announce the world’s first TPC-VMS benchmark result! Many organizations and their operations teams are still not confident that databases can be virtualized successfully.  It has been VMware’s experience though that performance should no longer be a barrier to continued adoption of database workloads on vSphere.  By leveraging this 3rd party, audited benchmark, we hope to increase customer confidence that vSphere is the best platform for all your…

Rethink IT: Reports of vCloud Director’s death exaggerated (http://blogs.vmware.com/rethinkit/?p=460)Borrowing from  Mark Twain’s retort to newspaper stories of his death , reports of the death of vCloud Director are exaggerated. vCloud Director (vCD) is alive and well and now 100% focused on the needs of the service provider market, where it powers more than 250 public clouds in the vCloud Powered and vCloud Datacenter programs in addition to VMware’s own vCloud Hybrid Service . We’ll continue to integrate vCD functions into vCenter and vCloud Automation Center, as previously announced . With this…

VMware End User Computing: Have You Ever Cheated on a School Test? (http://blogs.vmware.com/euc/?p=3653)by Geoffrey Murase, Solutions Marketing, VMware The incentive to cheat is highly correlated with what is at stake.  For example, in preschool, it’s pretty rare to see a child copy another classmate’s finger painting because not much is at stake.  However, in high school, getting good grades means getting into a good college.  That’s where I was first exposed to the temptation of cheating on a test.  I recall one class where the teacher gave the same multiple choice test every  year.  Students…

VMware Consulting Blog: The Snowden Leak: A Windfall for Hybrid Cloud? That’s not surprising, since hybrid clouds allow businesses to keep their data in their own house and out of the prying eyes of government. That’s undoubtedly attractive for foreign companies doing business with or in the United States, since the US…

Keeping this in mind, we have worked on a number of performance enhancements for the way that vSphere 5.5 manages IPv6 network traffic. Some new features that we have implemented include: • TCP Checksum Offload: For Network Interface Cards (NICs) that support this feature, the computation of…
