VMware Accelerate: IT, It’s Time to Change Your Relationship with Change (http://blogs.vmware.com/accelerate/?p=1261)Author: Reid Engstrom Many IT organizations are reluctant to drive virtualization to high levels in their compute environment, while casting a speculative eye toward the software-defined data center (SDDC), which expands virtualization to include networking, storage, and management platforms. This reticence is hardly surprising since these advances require changing the data center environment, and change has always introduced the possibility of a technical fault widespread enough to affect business…

VROOM!: Simulating different VDI users with View Planner 3.0 (http://blogs.vmware.com/performance/?p=1510)VDI benchmarking is hard. What makes it challenging is getting a good representation or simulation of VDI users.  If we closely look at typical office users, we can get a spectrum of VDI users where at the one end of spectrum, the user may be using some simple Microsoft Office applications at a relatively moderate speed, whereas at the other end of spectrum, the user may be running some CPU-heavy multimedia applications and switching between many applications much faster. We classify the fast user as the…

vCO Team: Making vCO Workflow Wrappers (http://www.vcoteam.info/learn-vco/making-vco-workflow-wrappers.html)A vCO workflow wrapper is a set of workflow tasks that are added at the beginning of a workflow in order to take string values and look up a more complex data type or pre-defining inputs using attributes. You may have done these in the past already in vCO. Some examples would be finding a virtual machine by name or finding an Active Directory user by email address. If you're running the vCO workflow from within the vCO client or vSphere web client, you probably don't need to worry about this as both…

VMware Consulting Blog: The Secret to Getting Security to Say ‘Yes’ (http://blogs.vmware.com/consulting/?p=852)By Richard Rees, Security & Compliance Architect, VMware Professional Services My post last week about the NSA and hybrid cloud I shared an important equation from the security world: Trust = Visibility + Control.
