From the editors virtual desk

Hi everyone, the end of 2013 is fast approaching but I still have so much to do. It always seems like the business period just prior to the holidays and this year has been no exception. I have had a really good week spending time digesting some of the announcements around PAAS from pivotal and how it will impact the marketplace. I have also spent much time contemplating the operational requirements and the complexities involved for an organisation that has workloads in their private data centre and in the cloud. The governance issues are one thing but the ongoing operational management including performance is something else. I was in a customer meeting this week where we discussed the “Single Pane of Glass” for operations management and I commented that this has been the goal of IT Operations forever. I did not see that using current generation solutions would solve this problem and that I believed many vendors were using outdated technology built for a single service model in a more physical world and trying to bend it into a dynamic clue based virtual world.

I have a busy week, the TAM program is hosting a Webex this week which you (as a TAM customer) would have received an invite for if you are in our region. I am also very busy planning for the local Brisbane TA day which is now in it’s fifth consecutive year. I will provide more info on this even in the coming newsletters.

Have a great week everyone.

  • VMware Accelerate: An SDDC Helps IT and Marketing Meet in the Middle (http://blogs.vmware.com/accelerate/?p=1541)AUTHOR: Enrico Boverino Companies need to deploy a modern workplace and innovative infrastructure in order to digitize business processes, and that often calls for organizational and financial shifts in both the IT  and  marketing departments. Can a software-defined data center (SDDC)—which at first glance may appear to be purely a technology strategy—help CIOs and CMOs work together to deliver competitive business innovation while reducing budgets? I believe so. A standard definition of digital…

VMware is introducing a completely updated Horizon View Client for Windows, and to cushion the blow, we’re going to walk you through it. First, why did we do it? With VSAN enabled on the cluster, the administrator is given a number of options to choose from: Ensure accessibility Full data migration No data migration The thing with VSAN is that although a virtual machine’s compute may not be on the host that is being placed into maintenance mode, there is still a strong possibility that part of the virtual machines…

VMware Accelerate: The 4 Components of a Service-Focused Culture (http://blogs.vmware.com/accelerate/?p=1480)Author: Alex Salicrup I have made bold observations in my recent blogs about the need for a cultural shift to that of a service-driven culture. This is a culture with a strong focus on customer needs, customer services, and meeting deadlines. This type of culture also allows the IT organization to scale and adapt to changing business needs rather than rigidly following old strategies. Although a cultural shift like this might seem an insurmountable task, I’ve seen it occur—and faster than you might…
