From the editors virtual desk

Hi everyone, well it has been a very busy week but unfortunately I did not get more opportunity to work on my vCAC and ITBM project. I was really hoping to do that but I suppose after all of my progress that is what happens. We had our 4th VMware Virtual Cloud Day in our region which was as usual an excellent event which was enjoyed by so many of our awesome customers. I have been kept busy with a number of project and upgrades at customers but also presenting on the VMware strategy and Software Defined Data Centre. I was lucky enough to be asked to present to a number of customers early in the week at a dinner which I attended on behalf of VMware and I think from the conversations afterwards that the presentation and VMware’s strategy in this are in general is being very well accepted. I would like to point you to our main page on this if you would like to read more about it: http://www.vmware.com/software-defined-datacenter.

Have a superb week and I look forward to speaking to you again next week and hopefully giving you some further info on my Lab and it’s progress.

  • VMware vCloud Blog: You’re “It” – Hybrid Cloud and an IT Image Make-Over (http://blogs.vmware.com/vcloud/?p=3583)We’re having a little fun kicking off a campaign this week in partnership with The Onion, but we have a serious point behind the antics. Your business is trying to do big things, and do them in a hurry, and sometimes business leaders don’t view IT as the strategic partner to get them to their destination. We believe by embracing the hybrid cloud, we can change that relationship, to make IT the “it” crowd, the people who really make things happen. That’s because a hybrid cloud strategy gives IT…

VROOM!: Reducing Power Consumption in the vSphere 5.5 Datacenter (http://blogs.vmware.com/performance/?p=1821)Today’s virtualized datacenters consist of several servers connected to shared storage, and this configuration has been necessary to enable the flexibility that virtualization provides and still allow for high performance. However, the power consumption of this setup is a major concern because shared storage can consume as much as 2-3x the power of a single, mid-ranged server. In this blog, we look at the performance impact of replacing shared storage with local disks and PCIe flash storage in a vSphere…
