https://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2016/12/kmip-server-docker-container-for-evaluating-vm-encryption-in-vsphere-6-5.html

https://adventar.org/calendars/3101#list-2018-12-04

vsan-adv-d21-01.png

vsan-adv-d21-02.png

vsan-adv-d21-03.png

vsan-adv-d21-04.png

vsan-adv-d21-05.png

vsan-adv-d21-06.png

vsan-adv-d21-07.png

vsan-adv-d21-08.png

vsan-adv-d21-09.png

vsan-adv-d21-10.png

vsan-adv-d21-14.png

vsan-adv-d21-13.png

vsan-adv-d21-15.png

vsan-adv-d21-12.png

vsan-adv-d22-04.png

vsan-adv-d22-05.png

vsan-adv-d22-06.png

vsan-adv-d22-07.png

vsan-adv-d22-09.png

vsan-adv-d22-10.png

vsan-adv-d22-12.png

vsan-adv-d22-13.png

vsan-adv-d22-14.png

vsan-adv-d22-16.png

vsan-adv-d22-17.png

vsan-adv-d22-19.png

vsan-adv-d22-21.png

vsan-adv-d22-22.png

vsan-adv-d23-14.png

vsan-adv-d23-15.png

vsan-adv-d23-03.png

vsan-adv-d23-17.png

vsan-adv-d23-18.png

vsan-adv-d23-05.png

vsan-adv-d23-06.png

vsan-adv-d23-16.png

vsan-adv-d23-09.png

vsan-adv-d23-10.png

vsan-adv-d24-39.png

vsan-adv-d24-40.png

vsan-adv-d24-53.png

vsan-adv-d24-02.png

vsan-adv-d24-04.png

vsan-adv-d24-06.png

ESXi VM(VCSA デプロイ先の ESXi にする)に割り当てる仮想ディスクも、

vsan-adv-d24-07.png

Descriptions:  You might need to re-register the Update Manager with vCenter Server in certain situations, for example when the IP address of vCenter Server or Update Manager changes. You do not need to worry, because it may not take more than 5 minutes if you do it correctly with the correct approach.

Prerequisites

Backup Browsing and Restoring with VMcom Backup Appliance

Hi all,

in today's blog post we'll go through the process of browsing and restoring backups created with VMcom Backup Appliance. It is a very simple procedure so to keep things entertaining, I'll cover some background facts and trivia that are outside the scope of a typical guide.

Assuming you already have VMcom deployed, installed and have created your first backup, you might now wonder how to restore virtual machines and individual files in case something goes wrong. VMcom aims to keep things simple, yet fool-proof and offers some nice features that are easy to miss when reading a normal guide.

After you log in to VMcom, select Browse Backups left menu item. You should now see a list of virtual machines which have backups in the system. Please note that tenants with limited privileges can only see backups from their own backup jobs, master users like admin get to see everything. Click Browse button to see individual restore points and virtual disks.

backups list.png

You now have three options:

1. Browse and restore individual files

This is the safest option as it does not influence the original virtual machine in any way. Using the embedded file browser you can select files and folders to restore and VMcom will create a nice ZIP archive for you to download. Use ctrl+click (or cmd+click on Mac) to select multiple items.

file browser.png

This can also be handy for non-IT personnel in your company to retrieve older versions of their documents etc. Simply give them the most basic user role File Restore Operator and you can be sure they cannot mess up anything while having the ability to restore themselves. As an administrator I love to delegate these tasks to users and they like having the tools to perform them.

This feature is available for both Windows and Linux filesystems and does not require any agents or OS credentials.

2. Restore entire VM

This option is most useful when something is critically wrong with the primary virtual machine. Eg. kernel update fails, you cannot boot and you simply have to fix it now.

In order to make sure this type of restore is not used by accident, VMcom requires you to power off the original virtual machine in vSphere. To play on the safe side even more, it creates a snapshot of the current state before the restore operation begins. Should the restore fail or should you change your mind about this, you have 3 days to use the snapshot manager in vSphere client in order to safely revert this operation. After 3 days, the emergency snapshot is removed automatically. You may also delete it manually after you verify the restore has been successful.

Please note that the emergency snapshot can take up some space on the datastore which is why VMcom requires some additional free space to perform this operation.

3. Restore VM into a new location

The last option basically creates a new virtual machine from the selected backup. This operation should be always performed by the administrator and is disabled for tenant users.

If you have multiple vCenters or ESXi hosts configured in VMcom, it is even possible to restore to another vCenter or ESXi. The only limitation is free datastore space and supported virtual hardware. When restoring to the same host and network as the original, make sure virtual machines' IP addresses do not colide after you power up the new one :-)

restore to new loc.png

This restore method is preferred to the previous one as you can keep the original virtual machine running until the restore operation fully completes.

Summary

As you can see, VMcom aims to never disrupt the primary infrastructure. Even when you try to overwrite the original data, it creates an emergency snapshot. It does not require any OS changes, agents, additional services or credentials to do stuff inside your VMs.

The main message here is ease of use and robustness. Packed up in a nice web GUI.

If you like what you see, you can download a free trial and give it a go.

A PKS tale: NSX-T Protected Objects or Protected by superuser

$

Hi just want to post something to track my PKS upgrade from 1.1.4 to 1.2, so let me give some context here:

PKS on this time was installed in the 1.1.4 version with NSX-T 2.1, nothing weirdo so the deal was to move to 1.2 the PKS, and here is the challenge faced, there is  an issue in PKS regarding that version in where some elements are not able to be "deleted", so let me explain more in detail.

PKS is a solution composed of mainly 3 elements: PKS tile, Operations Manager Tile and Bosh Director, extras you have NSX-T and Harbor if registry selection is that, so in short PKS does on-prem a GCP for K8s and consequently for CNA's, so by means of BOSH connects to vSphere and do the magic to create VMs (vSphere based in this case )when you request the creation of PODs at K8s level, so K8`s orchestrates Docker and PKS takes care of K8s and BOSH of the VM´s n a declarative way of construct infrastructure,so long story short when you install everything and integrated with NSX-T PKS creates a superuser in NSX manager to wire all the pods in K8's in automatic was every time you need a new namespace, so if you see any installation include the HOL´s PKS you will see something similar to the pic below.

Fig1. The object created from PKS in NSX-T (note the "key" icon this means that is not possible to modify/deleted by admin )

in this case, everything is fine that is the way PKS connects with NSX-T and tell him you know what? create a Logical Switch and a T0 and wire them and create a Load Balancer and wire it as well and so on so fort you get the idea.

Well in the case you want to upgrade the procedure to follows is documented in pivotal docs (RTM) so first, upgrade NSX-T and everything is OK, but then I have to upgrade a couple of PKS clusters so when you run the upgrade of PKS (at this point everything else you where able / maybe not to upgrade) the cluster send error in bosh cli (https://bosh.io/docs/cli-v2/ ) task will show something like this(my first problem) :

So I saw something like above then I figure out to solve it if anyone has the interest I follow the steps to "touch" the MariaDB for clean my clusters.

Then when I got back to NSX-T there was a lot of things that I don`t need anymore since some clusters where created and have to reference to those objects in PKS (aka PKS create LS in NSX-T) so I went to the UI and try to delete them but them (my second problem)  the  Edit & Delete option was grayed, so that means that I can do anything with those.

Fig2 Grayed  EDIT and DELETE options in NSX-T

just trying to get the most easy way to solve this 'I asked' since everyone talks about the problem but just after a while somebody told me you have to follow the yellow brick road, so at the end I was pointed to became superuser (PKS superuser) and then delete the objects, so I find the instructions but there where like many steps from the perspective of doing many steps and with high risk if you miss one letter or copy paste certificate for the user etc, a nightmare inside a nightmare so please don't go there.

So I find this link and after testing the procedure and easy API call  (Deletetion in this case) http://keithlee.ie/2018/12/27/how-to-delete-nsx-t-protected-objects/ (Kudos to this guy) or set of API calls wich seem more simple, in additon or contribution to that I modeify the API calls usign like this:

Finally, I could continue to my upgrade after feeling the pain I just want to post this for somebody to find it useful, I spend like 8 hours on this so maybe this can save you time and headaches.

Note: You may have something similar but at the end, the problem will arise and you will have to spend a long time checking about it, so the symptom at this point is a) you need to upgrade PKS and b) you can´t "clean"  objects from previous installation,  and here you will see if you are finishing the deployment and then you want to leave as it was installed by the first time or like in my case need to upgrade and in order to upgrade I was unable to have a clean update since objects were not possible to remove from NSX-T.

Steps to follow while resetting PSC root password via GUI

Hi,

I was trying to reset root password for PSC . However , the passwords could not initially be changed via VAMI GUI. I do had option to enter current and new password and submit , but the system gave no confirma@tion of change and no error message. The password was not changed and it was possible to re-login using the previous password.

One more thing which i noticed in my GUI was the password expiry date it was "1 Jan 1971" .

When a PuTTY session was opened, a warning message that the passwords had expired was shown.  I was able to enter the new passwords at this point. Returning to VAMI, the expiration date now showed "24 Jan 2020", and it was now possible to change the passwords via the GUI.

GUI password change issue not sure if we can address to be a bug which VMware need to look PSC and VC version 6.5.

Regards

FROM THE EDITORS VIRTUAL DESK
Hi everyone, well conference season continues and this past week the AWS re:Invent conference was held in Las Vegas. VMware was very prominent at the event and was also a major sponsor. We had many sessions as well as showcasing our VMware Cloud on AWS solutions at the Expo, and our CEO Pat Gelsinger on stage with AWS CEO Andy Jassy. There have been many milestones and updates to the VMware Cloud on AWS over the past year or so that have been released on a 90 day cycle which you can follow here, and these were also showcased at the event. If you were able to attend I hope you managed to catch up with some of the VMware folk there.

AWS reinvent Las Vegas:
VMware and AWS CEOs made a HUGE announcement together on stage about the new VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts, and VMware Cloud Foundation for EC2: https://cloud.vmware.com/vmc-aws-outposts  as well as the re:Invent Keynote with Andy Jassy and Pat Gelsinger here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOIkOnW640A (2:28 – VMware Pat Gelsinger!)
