Hi everyone, well it has been a really busy week. I managed to get 2 days holiday at the beginning of the week which turned out to be glorious Queensland weather. I took the opportunity to see Wolverine which I really enjoyed and get in some time relaxing on the beach on the NSW far north coast which was excellent. Of course taking 2 days off meant I had a whole heap to catch up with when I returned so the rest of the week was flat out but very productive.
I am spending more and more time with my customers on our End User Computing solutions and find myself getting even more value out of my home lab running Horizon Suite all of the time by being able to test many of my customers requirements. My goal for next few weeks is to spend more time looking at profile and persona management and how to best approach this in a large organisation with multiple levels of complexity.
On a personal note I decided to bite the bullet and get myself a new Macbook Air. My previous one has now done 3 years of excellent service and has been used by my son for the past few months while I have been using my Macbook Pro however I find this to be too heavy to carry around and use on a regular basis compared to the Air so here I am again sporting a new Air and very happy with my decision. Of course I have my VMware View client installed and VMware Fusion to ensure all of my computing needs are satisfied.

VMware vCloud Blog: How To Setup vSphere Stretch Deploy To vCloud Hybrid Service – Part 2 (http://blogs.vmware.com/vcloud/?p=2690)By: Chris Colotti This is a repost from Chris Colotti’s blog, chriscolotti.us . Part 2 of this series on how to set up vSphere Stretch Deploy with vCloud Hybrid Service will deal specifically with the requirements and workings of the vShield Edge Gateway component in the local vSphere infrastructure. The reason I think this aspect is important is that from my experience most vSphere only customers may have never introduced this into their environment. However, it is a requirement for the…

And, one of the foundational building blocks enabling IT’s metamorphosis to service broker is the software-defined data center. IT’s evolution to a service broker also requires organizational and process changes in addition to a game-changing architectural approach. Defining the…

Now that I got my lab re-configured for just vSphere 5.1 only I wanted to simulate not only the use case for Stretch Deploy into vCloud Hybrid Service, but specifically doing so when you only have a vSphere infrastructure. Doing so has some different nuances you will need to consider that would not be present when doing a stretch deploy from a private vCloud Director install in premise to the Public Cloud. I…

VMware Virtualization Management Blog: Cloud Automation ROI – The Savings Potential of Eliminating Over Provisioning (http://blogs.vmware.com/management/?p=1403)In our overindulgent society, if some is good, more is even better. This philosophy often translates to the consumption of IT resources. For example, although the install guide recommends 4 GB of memory, if it has 8GB, then it should run better, right? Or, if I’ll likely need 2 TB of storage at some point in the applications life, I might as well provision it now so I won’t have to ask for more later (i.e. two years from now). In my experience, at every company I have worked with, over…

I wanted to run through a quick guide to what is needed for vSphere Stretch Deploy to work with vCloud Hybrid Service and how things are setup to get it working. In the cloud era, we explained, IT can give developers and users immediate access to standard IT services that are accessed and then scaled on demand. By accepting this increased standardization, their users are gaining unprecedented agility at the business level. For this to happen, though, IT consumers…
