From the editors virtual desk
Hi everyone, I have had quite a week. In Brisbane we had Wednesday as a public holiday for the Ekka which is a local event. I took the opportunity to get down to the beach for a bit of relaxation and of course spent some extra time on my Lab. Of course it did mean a shorter than normal week so I had loads to catch up on but all good and I actually enjoyed a midweek break.
Not much other news from my side this week so I will let the newsletter do all of the talking.
Oh yes if you are in Brisbane and have registered for our upcoming Lunch and Learn I look forward to seeing you there.

- Office of the CTO Blogs: Network Virtualization Gets Physical (http://cto.vmware.com/?p=2143)Network virtualization, as others have noted , is now well past the hype stage and in serious production deployments . One factor that has facilitated the adoption of network virtualization is the ease with which it can be incrementally deployed. In a typical data center, the necessary infrastructure is already in place. Servers are interconnected by a physical network that already meets the basic requirements for network virtualization: providing IP connectivity between the physical servers. And the…

What are the legal ramifications? How can I assure uptime? How do I back-up my data? Is it secure? Who has access to my stuff? Most importantly, how do I get all of my stuff over there? The questions go on and on. Pressure is coming from management because they’ve heard about all of the benefits of the cloud. Are you sure your definition of “The Cloud” is the same as theirs?…

- VMware Network Virtualization Blog: Picking The Right Abstrations For Your Network Virtualization Solution (http://blogs.vmware.com/networkvirtualization/?p=223)In my travels around the internet, I became increasingly frustrated by the fact that most descriptions of SDN and network virtualisation solutions dive right down into the specifics of how stuff works. While I’m all for the details, I feel that there is an opportunity here to step back a bit and talk about the abstractions, which is what the end-user will see and deal with. For this post, (and yes, by association) I will talk about the abstractions used by perhaps the most mature network virtualisation…
