From the editors virtual desk
Hi everyone, the final month of 2013 is here. It has been such an exciting and challenging year for me and I am really looking forward to winding down during the festive season and taking a short break. As we head into December we only have a few newsletters remaining. At this stage we will be on our annual Newsletter Break from the 2nd week of December until the 2nd week of January which means that next week will be the last newsletter of 2013.
Last week I was privileged to host our TAM customers in Queensland for our annual TAM Day. This is for me the highlight of my year and a day that I get to share with all of our fantastic TAM customers in a relaxed environment where we get to see some of the awesome new solutions that VMware has and also take the time to relax and chat. This year was fantastic as we presented 4 sessions including our new vCloud Suite and how it can help our customers on their hybrid cloud journey.
I look forward to speaking to you next week for the final newsletter of 2013.
Have a fantastic week.
Virtually Yours

- VMware Consulting Blog: SDDC + SAP = CapEx/OpEx Savings (http://blogs.vmware.com/consulting/?p=1115)By Girish Manmadkar, an SAP Virtualization Architect at VMware Earlier this month, my colleague David Gallant wrote about architecting a software-defined data center for SAP and other business-critical applications. I’d like to further explore how SAP fits into the software-defined data center (SDDC) and, specifically, how to optimize it for CapEx and OpEx savings. A key to remember is that the SDDC is not a single technology that you purchase and install—it is a use case, a strategy, a mind shift.…

- VMware Accelerate: Stop Starting With Technology (http://blogs.vmware.com/accelerate/?p=1624)AUTHOR: Arron Lock I recently presented onstage at the Enterprise Mobility: BYOD event here in London with a couple of respected peers in the industry from Airwatch and Swivel as well as a VMware colleague. After taking questions from the audience around security for BYOD, my main takeaway from the event and in particular this session is that there is still a lot of confusion around mobility in general. In fact, mobilit y is becoming a catch-all phrase for end-user computing (EUC) transformation. It’s…

- VMware vSphere Blog: Virtual SAN – Sizing Considerations (http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/?p=11022)A common question that I have seen recently around Virtual SAN (VSAN) is how limits on number of components, disks, etc., translate into capacity and policy limits. In this blog, we compare the VDI benchmarking performance of VSAN with an all flash storage array. The intent of this experiment is not to compare the maximum IOPS that you can achieve on these storage solutions; instead, we show how VSAN scales as we add more heavy VDI users. We found that VSAN can support a similar number of users as…
